What is the Karlstad Model?

The Karlstad Model is a language training model for children, young people and adults with language, speech or communication difficulties. The model is used for people of all ages, regardless of diagnosis.

The Karlstad model is based on children's natural language development and offers specific suggestions for exercises and materials that can be used in language training.

The model emphasizes pedagogical principles such as structure, continuity and clarity and has developed teaching materials that are based on the idea that learning should focus on learning objectives in addition to making learning simple, clear and fun.

In the Karlstad model, networks are central to language training. The idea that everyone around the child is an important resource is fundamental to the model.

In addition, the model uses various visual expressions to help develop spoken language. This means using signs, writing, and images in addition to speech in everyday life and in language training.

As special educators and counselors, we have used the Karlstad Model in the field of practice and have broad and extensive experience in translating the model into practice adapted to the child and their environment. We have deep insight into the model's background, value base, structure and how to train and stimulate skills from performative communication, the word stage, simple and developed grammar. We have worked to train others in the Karlstad Model through model learning, guidance, courses and networks.

The Karlstad model is the pedagogy of opportunity and provides a unique tool for providing communication, participation and language to everyone!
