In this course on mental health, we will try to answer the question: What is mental health in children and adolescents?
This is a course in mental health in children and adolescents that runs over 6 evenings.
The course is held in collaboration with the child and adolescent psychiatry department at Helse Stavanger .

Who is a course on mental health suitable for?
This course is suitable for employees in kindergartens/schools/pre-schools and institutions.
The course is therefore perfect for those of you who are teachers, assistants, care workers, child and youth workers or similar.
The course will also be useful for other caregivers who have responsibility for children and young people.
When participating in the course, we recommend bringing your own food and drinks, as the canteen at UiS is closed in the afternoon/evening.
Course structure
The course consists of 6 sessions in the fall of 2023. The first course evening will be Tuesday 17.10.23 and then continues every Tuesday on the following dates: 24.10. – 31.10. – 07.11. – 14.11. – 21.11.

- Topic 1: About mental health in children and adolescents and the child interview by Lars Ravn Øhlckers , chief psychologist/psychological specialist, BUPA, SUS.
- Topic 2: About neuropsychiatry; ADHD and autism spectrum disorders by Sigrun Einarsdottir , psychology specialist SUS.
- Topic 3: About attachment and early interaction by Øyvor Gripsgård Bergslien , psychology specialist, BUPA, SUS/UiS.
- Topic 4: About anxiety, depression and cognitive behavioral therapy by Stig Bjønness , psychiatric nurse/PhD, BUPA, SUS/UiS.
- Topic 5: About trauma and painful experiences by Klara Øverland , PhD/psychologist, BUPA, SUS/UiS.
- Topic 6: About psychosocial work with youth by Stig Bjønness , psychiatric nurse/PhD, BUPA, SUS/UiS.

It is not necessary to purchase any textbooks. You will receive powerpoint files from all lectures.
