Aftenskolen is a non-profit foundation that offers adult education through the study association scheme.
We have been running courses in various forms since 1953. Until 2021, Aftenskolen consisted of various independent regions. On July 1, 2021, the former Aftenskolen Agder and Aftenskolen Rogaland merged into a single foundation.
We are a member of Akademikernes Studieforbund (AKS) and Kompetanseforbundet. This means that we are subject to the Adult Education Act, and our purpose is to lower the threshold for learning, increase access to knowledge and skills, and at the same time offer training that is a supplement to public education programs for adults. We are also an approved provider of Norwegian and social studies through the Norwegian Agency for Higher Education and Skills.
Our mission is to promote lifelong learning by facilitating organized learning activities alongside the formal education system.
