The courses are 15 hours long and run over 5 course evenings. After completing the course, you can continue on to the next course as the courses are for both beginners and advanced students and they have the same duration.
The goalof the painting course
The goal of this acrylic painting course is for you to learn the basics of acrylic painting.
You will learn many exciting techniques and how to use color in your images.
The goal is simply to give you a foundation for success with your own paintings.
The contentof the painting course
All of our courses are slightly adapted to the participants who take part in our painting courses, so each teacher makes their own plans for the teaching. However, there are some themes that we always go through during the course:
- introduction to painting
- acrylic paint tools/equipment and techniques
- light and color
- Color blends that add texture and structure
- composition
- perspective
On the first evening, we'll go through some practical tips on basic techniques and tools. We will show you a few more tools that you can use to paint with, and have some exercises.
The next few evenings are devoted to some theory and practice in various subjects. On the last evenings, you work on your own project and receive guidance along the way. Then you can choose your own motifs according to color and taste. The teacher will help each student with relevant techniques to be able to continue working on their own painting.
Material
You must bring the materials you need for the course yourself, as course materials are not included in the course fee. The exception is an easel that you can borrow if you wish (only applies in Kristiansand). Here are some tips on what you should bring:
- Acrylic paint in white, primary red, blue, yellow, green, paynes grey, black and other colors you like. Preferably in 250ml or 500ml size. These are basic colors that you can use to mix many different colors.
- 2 paint trays or plates with a size of at least 30×30 cm or 30×40 cm.
- Brushes in 3 different sizes, brush width - 8mm, 16mm, 24mm (for example). Pork bristle brushes are not recommended.
- Cloth for cleaning and drying brushes
- 2x cups/glasses for water, dryer sheet and large white disposable plates.
- Thick paper (250g/m2 in A3-A0) or white canvas (canvas panel)
You can find many of the materials you need at Hobbyhimmelen in Kristiansand. They also have an online shop. In Stavanger/Sandnes, we recommend buying paint from Kreaktiv/Panduro at Kvadrat or Gaute Rostrup in Sandnes, or from Clas Ohlson. Søstrene Grene sells good acrylic brushes and canvas.
