Do you want to sew your own bunad, and are wondering how to sew a Vest-Agder bunad?
At this bunad course in Kristiansand you will receive help to sew the bunad yourself.
Sew your own national costume
Through this course you will be able to sew, embroider and assemble your own bunad according to the sizes and measurements you want. You may want to sew bunads for yourself, or for other family members.
You can sew a bunad from scratch, or make changes to a bunad you already have. For example, you can sew in or out the bunad you have.
The course is designed so that you sew on your own project and get help with exactly what you need. There is therefore no fixed theme for the different weeks.
Instead, you will receive guidance from course instructors on what you are wondering about.
This is what you need to sew your own bunad
Fabric for the national costume
The course fee does not include any materials. You will therefore need to obtain the fabric you need for your bunad. It is a good idea to have it with you on the first evening so that you get the most out of the course.
You can find the fabric you need at Husfliden. They usually have ready-made fabric packs that will fit most sizes. You'll do pattern cutting and accurate measuring as part of the course.
Participants in our courses usually receive a discount on fabric purchases at Husfliden, so feel free to ask them about it.
Equipment
You will also need a sewing machine and equipment to sew the bunad (such as scissors and a tape measure). You don't need a sophisticated sewing machine, so if you have one at home, it will most likely be good enough.
If you don't already have a sewing machine, one of the sewing machines on this website could be a good option for you.
Experience
You don't need any previous experience to join these courses. We have previously had participants who had never used a sewing machine.
However, it is an advantage to know how to thread a sewing machine. If you don't already know how to thread a sewing machine, you can watch a short video about it here.
If you want to learn how to sew, we also have sewing courses in the Evening School. You can find our sewing course here.
Waiting list for national costume courses
Our courses fill up very quickly, and it is not uncommon for the courses to be full six months to a year before the course starts. So if you are planning to sew a bunad, it is better to be registered too early, than too late.
If the course is full, it is possible to be on a waiting list. If a place opens up, we will send an inquiry to those on the waiting list, and it will then be an opportunity to take the open place.
