You will receive theory instruction and exam training so that you are prepared to pass the theory, and then take the professional exam as a practical candidate, as a certificate on the job candidate or modularly structured professional and vocational training.
On this page we will describe details of the course, and the path to a certificate as a child and youth worker. If you already want to register, you can do so at the top of this page. You can also contact us here for guidance and help.
The goal of education in child and youth work
The aim of this course is to prepare you for the theoretical exam related to the professional exam in the child and youth worker profession(BUA3103).
If you pass this exam, you will, with 5 years of relevant professional experience (or through a vocational certificate on the job and MFY), be able to take the professional exam.
What will you learn in the course?
In this course we follow the curricula for health and upbringing subjects (vg1) , child and youth work subjects (VG2) and child and youth work subjects (VG3) . You will learn about health promotion work, physical and mental health. You will learn about how the body is built, about communication and interaction. You will learn about diet, nutrition and hygiene in addition to the development of children and adolescents.
All our courses are structured as hybrid courses. This means that you will have access to a comprehensive online resource with recorded lectures, interactive tasks and writing assignments. In addition, you will have access to a different number of sessions that you will see in the registration. These sessions can be physical (in the city listed) or online (on Google Meets). All classes will be with experienced teachers who aim to help you pass the exam.

Who is this education suitable for?
This course is suitable for those who want to obtain a certificate as a child and youth worker.
Regardless of whether you are following modular structured vocational training (MFY) , the internship candidate scheme or a vocational certificate on the job , you will have to pass BUA3103. This course will therefore suit you regardless of whether you follow one or the other scheme. Here is a brief explanation of the difference between the three schemes:
- Fagbrev på jobb is a scheme for those of you who are in a permanent job (minimum 50%) and have from one to four years of practice (between 1800 and 7000 hours). It is your workplace that must apply to get you into the scheme, but we can help with all the practicalities. If you fit these criteria, please feel free to contact us for more guidance.
- The internship candidate scheme is for adults with a lot of work experience. If you have more than five years of work experience (8750 hours) and pass HEA3103, you will be able to take the professional exam.
- Modular structured vocational training (MFT) is a new model for training that is better adapted to adults' needs, starting point and life situation, so that it becomes easier to switch between training, work and other obligations. In this model, you have the status of a participant rather than an apprentice as you are under a vocational certificate in the job scheme.
This course is suitable for those who have professional experience working in schools or kindergartens. The course is also suitable for those who do not yet have professional experience but who want to train in that direction.

The structure of the course
In this course you will have access to a comprehensive online resource with lectures and assignments. In addition, you will receive 180 hours of training with a teacher. During the 180 hours we focus on subjects, exam preparation, Norwegian language training (for those who wish) and digital skills.
It is recommended to have a Norwegian language level equivalent to the Norwegian language test B1. If needed, language support in Norwegian will be offered. If you would like to participate in more Norwegian language training, you can check out our Norwegian courses here.
Examination
To take the exam, you must register as a private student and take a private student exam according to the current rules.
You don't have to take an exam at VG1 or VG2 level, but many people choose to do so in order to train for the exam situation, or to have enough subjects to pass upper secondary education at VG1 and/or VG2 level. This may result in a reduction in the practical training requirement, depending on the type of education you already have.
You must remember to register for the exam yourself. The deadline for this is September 15 for the exams in the fall, and February 1 for the exams in the spring. There is also an exam fee that you pay when you register.
How to become a child and youth worker as an adult
Are you wondering how you can become a skilled child and youth worker? To get a certificate as a child and youth worker, you must register for the professional and journeyman exam. Before you are allowed to do so, you must cover the following:
- Five years of practice in the subject (8750 hours). There are various schemes that can give you a reduction in this requirement. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about your situation.
- Passed a theoretical VG3 exam (BUA3103). It is this exam that this course, and a course that comes after this, prepares you for.
If you are following a Certificate of Apprenticeship on the Job or Modular Structured Vocational Training, you do not need to achieve a fixed number of hours. You will then be able to take the professional exam when you have passed BUA3103 and completed a sufficient number of modules.
There is no specific order for these two requirements. In other words, you can take the theory exam before you have the practical experience you need. For many people, it may be easier to get a position that gives you practice if you already have the theory in place.
